In Praise Of Decay (and against plastic)

Malcolm Guite

In pale gold leaf-fall losing shape and edge In pale gold leaf-fall losing shape and edge

I walk each morning in some woodland near my home and especially savour in this late autumn, early winter season, the damp carpet of fallen leaves, now decaying and forming  rich mulch that will feed the soil for future growth. Even in their decay, losing edge and shape, melding and blending together there is in this carpet of leaves, a kind of grace and beauty. The other morning though, these meditations were interrupted by a sudden intrusion. There amongst the gold and mottled leaf mould, like some harsh alien excrescence, was a discarded plastic bag. It was totally out of place and told its own tale of indifference and carelessness; not just the carelessness of the person that dropped it, but the carelessness of the culture that produced it. The trees shed their leaves, and in that fall and letting go  achieve…

A reminder to all

As time goes by

There’s no need for you to tell me what to do.

There’s no need for you to show me how to do it.

There’s no need for you to lead me through it.

There’s no need for you to correct my errors.

There’s no need for you to be angry over my choice.

I’ve charted the course of my life.

This is my life and I will live my life, my way.

Memories of the past

I did some scanning and cleaning on my hard disk last night and stumbled upon some old photos.

I never knew I still have them with me.

Of course, bittersweet memories started to play… and it’s heartbreaking.

How time flies so fast as it is already eight to ten years since those photos were taken.

I came to the realization that I am still living comfortably in the past.

A past dweller they say – the person who walks with his head fixed looking back the path he has taken.

*delete* – Hoping that I never turn my head around again.

I’m coming back.

How long has it been since I’ve written anything lengthy other than a short Tweet or random things on my mind on Facebook.

I couldn’t think of anything to write about, and even when I do, it just vanishes into thin air whenever I open up MS Word.

Could it be because a blog post is suppose to be a post of a bigger size than a tweet and status?

Or is it the idea of writing a post where no one will read has deter us of our will to write anything on it?

I’ve stumbled upon sevensentences.com blog yesterday and is instantly inspired by the idea of writing a blog post in EXACT SEVEN LINES.

I will start to practice this new way of writing as it somehow stimulates our creativity to write within that limitation.

This will be the starting point of this blog revival.
